Health Science Postgraduate Orientation Module 2024
Health Science Postgraduate Orientation Module 2024
The module aims to offer professional development training as well as an introduction to basic research skills to postgraduate students in the Faculty of Health Sciences. We will leverage off courses that have been developed by research consortia and projects which are/were supported by the faculty. The participating consortia include, the Human Heredity and Health in Africa (H3Africa), Data Science for Health Discovery and Innovation in Africa (DSI-Africa) and the Sickle Africa Data Coordinating Center (SADaCC). The repurposing of such training creates a sustainability model for activities from funded time-bound research consortia and also creates a platform for making training equitable for all postgraduate students in the faculty. This year, this training will be voluntary for all new postgraduates students. Existing postgraduate students are also most welcome to attend. The module is likely to help create a strong network of students across the faculty who have a solid foundation in:
- Research being conducted in the Faculty
- Research integrity
- Research methods
- Research support available to students
- Self-care and career development
